Spring Kanzashi
The Spring season will often see the following traditional motifs, symbols, and designs placed within their structure or as the basis of their work such as: Sakura, Falling Sakura Petals, Butterflies, Peonies, Wisteria, Magnolia, Irises, Daffodils, Narcissus, New bamboo shoots, Orchids, and the Peacock. This month begins the Spring season and as such features kanzashi of flowers coming into bloom such as the Peach Blossom (momo), Narcissus (nanohana), Rape Blossom (nanohana), and the Peony flower.

You may also spot a few additional decorations mixed in with these, such as Silver & Gold Butterflies, Trailing Yellow and White Rape Blossoms, and Tsumami Butterflies.

With Spring coming into full bloom you'll now spot Kanzashi that contain Japan’s favorite flower - the Cherry blossom. Cherry Blossom Viewing at this time of year is a major cultural event in Japan and the blossoms themselves are highly revered.

Also seen at this time are Silk Butterflies, Mizubiki Butterflies, Silver/Gold butterflies, Bonbori lanterns, and kanzashi consisting of a single silver (or sometimes gold) butterfly (cho) made of mizuhiki cord are common. Additionally, you'll see embellishments such as trailing soft pink cherry blossom (sakura) mixed with butterflies and bonbori lanterns as a signal of the approaching Summer.

Ayame (Iris) Kanzashi

During the end of Spring you'll spot Kanzashi featuring the lovely trailing purple Wisteria (fuji) and the pretty Blue-Flag Iris (ayame) in full bloom.

You will also often see the little embellishments of silver or gold butterflies placed within these motifs or used alone, much as they are used in the other Spring months to denote the beauty of nature at this time of year.
