Non Traditional Floral Kanzashi
Traditional hana kanzashi are almost always based on flowers, animals, and motifs that are found in Japan and in a few cases the parts of Asia that are closest to Japan, such as China. While the other categories found in the seasonal hana kanzashi section detail the typical kanzashi worn during each season, this section holds some hana kanzashi that are based off of floras that aren't native to Japan.

Tiger Lily -
The tiger lily is seen in full glory, after growing in Spring, in the Summer and can be found in various parts around the world, but is a native to
eastern Guam, China, Korea, and Japan.

If this were to be confined to use in a  particular month, it would most likely be used during the months of
June and July, as the Summer season is when it finally blooms after much growth during the Spring.

The artist has made it so that the tiger lily kanzashi closely mirrors the coloring and signature black speckled dots found in the live plants, as well as featuring the black tipped stamens.

Clematis Vine -
The clematis vine comes about in the late spring and can be found in various parts around the world in the temperate regions in both hemispheres.

If this were to be confined to use in a  particular month, it would most likely be used during the month of May, right before the Summer season, as it is as Spring Flower, but also loves warmth.

The artist has made it so that the vine portions of the clematis kanzashi dangle similarly to the more traditional kanzashi that maiko wear, but rather than petals vine leaves have been used to create the desired effect.

Mandevilla
-
Mandevilla is a vine that grows in the spring and fall that has many pinwheel shaped flowers growing upon it. It is native to Central and South America and comes in many different colorings, as well in a 100 different species.

If this were to be confined for use during a particular month, it would most likely be used during the Summer months because of its adaptability and love of warm climates.

The artist states that they have used a gauzy silk/linen blend fabric for the blossom and silk gauze for the leaves, all of which hand dyed as to achieve the deep scarlet red coloring of the petals.

Holly -
This hana kanzashi is made to resemble a holly located on the East Coast of the US during wintertime.

If this were to be confined for use during a particular month, it would most likely be used during December as that is when their color shows against the snow making it noticeable and the time when hollies are popularly displayed during the holiday of Christmas.

The artist states that the
holly branches and leaves are made from a silk gauze and that to achieve the icy shimmer look, they were covered in a  metallic crinkled silk to simulate bowed, ice covered branches.
