 About Kanzashi Garden
I originally was inspired to create
kanzashi after becoming heavily interested in Japanese culture.
I've always been drawn to Asian designs and philosophies since I
was little. In my early teen years I was drawn to Japanese anime
due to it's expressive beautifully drawn images and to it's often
interesting and sometimes controversial subjects. This then lead
me to further look into Japanese lifestyle and history.
The designs and intricacies of the kimono caught my attention as
did the traditional Japanese way of life ... I then came to admire
the detailed and ornate kanzashi that geisha would don in their
hair. I wished to have some of my own, yet they were far too
expensive due to how limited they are and how far they would have
to travel to reach me. Thus, after some time I decided to start
creating kanzashi hair accessories for myself.
At one point this website was
designed to be a store for my kanzashi, but with much moving
around and a serious time two years of not be inspired, it sat
idle. I was recently inspired again and decided to convert this
site into an information site dedicated on thorough knowledge on
the subject of kanzashi, such as the history, places to purchase
them from, and how to make tsumami kanzashi. As this is an ever
growing site, I will continually add more information to expand
the knowledge of kanzashi.
